About this calculator

A basis point (bps) is one hundredth of one percentage point, so 100 basis points always equal exactly 1%. Finance professionals use basis points instead of percentages specifically to avoid ambiguity — saying a rate "rose 25 basis points" is unambiguous, whereas "rose 25%" could be misread as a 25% relative increase rather than a 0.25 percentage-point move.

This converter moves values in either direction between the two units. It's used constantly in fixed-income and central-bank commentary — a Federal Reserve rate hike is reported in basis points, bond yield spreads are quoted in bps, and loan or mortgage rate changes are often expressed the same way — so being able to convert quickly between bps and percent matters for anyone reading financial news or working with interest rates and yields.
