About this calculator

This calculator estimates how many bricks are needed to build a wall by dividing the wall's area (length × height) by the number of bricks required to cover one square metre — a figure that depends on the brick size and the mortar joint thickness used, since standard bricks laid with typical 10mm mortar joints usually work out to around 50–60 bricks per square metre for a single-thickness wall.

Builders, contractors, and DIY homeowners use this kind of estimate to order the right quantity of materials before starting a project, avoiding both costly mid-job reorders and excess waste — most professionals also add a 5–10% buffer on top of the raw calculation to account for cuts, breakages, and pattern-related waste. Enter the wall's dimensions and the bricks-per-square-metre figure to find the total bricks needed.
