This calculator multiplies a room's length by its width to get the floor area, adds a waste allowance for cuts and pattern matching, and multiplies by the price per square meter (or square foot) to estimate the total material cost of carpeting a room.

Because carpet is typically sold in fixed-width rolls, the calculator's waste margin accounts for the offcuts that are unavoidable when a room's dimensions don't divide evenly into roll widths.
