Corticosteroids differ widely in anti-inflammatory potency — a milligram of dexamethasone is far stronger than a milligram of hydrocortisone — so switching a patient from one agent to another (or between oral and other formulations) requires converting the dose using standard potency-equivalence ratios established from decades of clinical pharmacology data, commonly referenced against a baseline of hydrocortisone or prednisone.

This calculator converts a dose of one corticosteroid to the pharmacologically equivalent dose of another using those standard ratios. It reflects a calculation clinicians and pharmacists routinely perform when switching a steroid regimen, but it computes ratios only — actual dosing decisions depend on the clinical picture, taper schedule and patient factors that only a prescriber can weigh, so this tool is not medical advice.
