About this calculator

A camera's crop factor is the ratio between a full-frame (35mm) sensor's diagonal and a smaller sensor's diagonal — roughly 1.5x for APS-C, 2x for Micro Four Thirds. Multiplying a lens's focal length by the crop factor gives its 35mm-equivalent field of view.

Multiplying the aperture by the same factor gives the equivalent depth-of-field and light-gathering comparison, letting photographers judge two lenses on different sensor systems on common ground. This calculator is used by photographers choosing lenses, comparing gear across brands, or moving between a crop-sensor and a full-frame camera body and needing to know what focal length will “feel” the same.
