About this calculator

Carriers like FedEx, UPS, DHL, and USPS bill for whichever is greater: a package's actual weight or its dimensional (volumetric) weight. Dimensional weight approximates how much space a package takes up on a truck or plane rather than how heavy it is, and it's calculated as (length × width × height) ÷ a dimensional divisor — commonly 139 for inches/pounds domestically or 5000 for centimeters/kilograms internationally, though some carriers use 166 for air freight.

This calculator takes your package's dimensions and divisor, computes the dimensional weight, and compares it against the actual scale weight to show which one the carrier will actually charge you for — the billable weight. E-commerce sellers, warehouse and fulfillment staff, and freight forwarders use it before shipping to avoid surprise charges on large-but-light boxes like pillows or lampshades, where volume rather than mass drives the cost.
