About this calculator

This calculator estimates daily water needs at roughly 50-60 ml per kilogram of body weight (about 1 fluid ounce per pound), the general veterinary guideline for a healthy dog at rest — a 20 kg dog needs on the order of 1-1.2 liters a day, more in hot weather, after exercise, or for a dog eating dry kibble rather than wet food.

Dog owners use it to check whether their pet is drinking a normal amount or to plan how much water to bring on a hike or trip, and it's a useful baseline for vets and owners alike since a dog drinking noticeably more or less than this range over time can be an early sign of conditions like kidney disease or diabetes worth mentioning at a checkup.
