About this calculator

The ADAG (A1c-Derived Average Glucose) study, published in 2008, established a direct linear relationship between HbA1c — a blood test reflecting average blood glucose over roughly the preceding two to three months — and day-to-day average glucose readings, expressed as eAG(mg/dL) = 28.7 × A1C − 46.7. This lets an HbA1c percentage, which most people don't intuitively relate to a glucose number, be translated into the same mg/dL or mmol/L units shown on a home glucose meter.

This calculator takes an HbA1c percentage and returns the estimated average glucose in both mg/dL and mmol/L. People with diabetes tracking how their lab HbA1c compares to their day-to-day meter readings, and diabetes educators and clinicians explaining HbA1c results to patients use eAG to make the connection between a periodic lab value and the glucose numbers patients see and manage every day.
