About this calculator

This calculator multiplies the area to be covered by the fill depth to get a volume, then converts it to weight using a density figure specific to gravel type — typically around 1.4 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard depending on whether it's crushed stone, pea gravel, or river rock.

It's used by contractors and landscapers quoting driveway, walkway or drainage-bed jobs where gravel is sold by the ton, and by DIY homeowners figuring out how many truckloads or bags to order for a project without over- or under-buying.
