About this calculator

A high-yield savings account (HYSA) pays an APY (Annual Percentage Yield) that is typically many times higher than a traditional bank savings account, usually offered by online banks with lower overhead. Because APY already reflects the effect of compounding, projecting a future balance means applying that rate to the starting principal period after period while adding any regular monthly deposits along the way.

This calculator takes the principal, APY, monthly deposit, and number of years and projects the account balance forward, separating out how much of the final total came from your own deposits versus how much came from interest. It is a useful way to see how much a higher APY, or a bigger regular deposit, actually moves the needle over several years compared with letting the same money sit in a low-rate account.
