The word “pint” means two different volumes depending on which side of the Atlantic you’re on. An imperial pint (UK, Ireland, and used across the Commonwealth for draught beer) equals 20 imperial fluid ounces or 568.26 mL, while a US pint equals 16 US fluid ounces or 473.18 mL — so one imperial pint holds about 1.20095 US pints, roughly a fifth more liquid.

This gap trips up homebrewers following recipes from the other country, bartenders and pub owners moving between British and American beer service, and travelers ordering “a pint” who are surprised by the different pour size.
