About this calculator

When an object slides down a ramp, its acceleration depends on the balance between the component of gravity pulling it down the slope and the friction force resisting that motion. Resolving gravity into components parallel and perpendicular to the incline gives the standard result a = g·(sinθ − μ·cosθ), where θ is the incline angle and μ is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the object and the surface.

This calculator computes that acceleration from the incline angle, friction coefficient, and gravity. It's one of the foundational problems in introductory mechanics and dynamics courses, and the same reasoning — resolving forces along an inclined surface — extends directly into real engineering applications like conveyor design, ramp and loading-dock safety analysis, and vehicle dynamics on graded roads.
