About this calculator

ISO 3166-1 is the international standard for representing country names in a short, unambiguous form. Alongside the familiar two-letter alpha-2 code (like TR or US), the standard also defines a three-letter alpha-3 code and a three-digit numeric code — the same numeric codes originally assigned by the UN Statistics Division.

Different systems prefer different formats: shipping and customs documentation, some government databases, and older EDI systems often store the numeric code, while APIs and domain-style codes typically use alpha-2 or alpha-3. Software developers, data engineers, and localization teams use lookups like this one to translate between formats when integrating APIs, cleaning datasets, or mapping country fields across systems that don't agree on which ISO 3166-1 representation to use.
