About this calculator

This calculator finds the floor area of your room (length × width), adds a waste allowance to cover cuts, staggered seams, and mistakes — typically 5-10% for a simple rectangular room, more for rooms with alcoves, diagonal layouts, or lots of doorways — then divides by the coverage area printed on each box of laminate and rounds up to the number of full boxes you need to buy.

DIY homeowners and flooring contractors use this to order the right quantity before starting a job: under-ordering risks a mismatched dye lot if you have to buy more later, since laminate batches vary slightly in color and pattern between production runs, while over-ordering wastes money on boxes that often aren't returnable once opened. Rounding up to full boxes, rather than exact square footage, reflects how laminate is actually sold at retail.
