About this calculator

This calculator finds the combined resistance of two resistors in both configurations: in series the resistances simply add (R = R1 + R2), while in parallel they combine as R = (R1 × R2) ÷ (R1 + R2), which always yields a total lower than either resistor alone.

Electronics hobbyists and students use it constantly when prototyping circuits, since resistors rarely come in the exact value a design calls for and combining two standard values in series or parallel is the usual workaround to hit a target resistance.
