About this calculator

A strong monoprotic acid like hydrochloric acid dissociates essentially completely in water, so its hydrogen ion concentration [H⁺] equals the acid’s molar concentration directly, and pH follows the standard formula pH = −log₁₀[H⁺]. From there, pOH is found from pOH = 14 − pH at 25°C, since pH + pOH always equals the water dissociation constant’s exponent.

Chemistry students and lab technicians use this calculation to predict solution pH before running a titration or preparing a buffer, and it’s a foundational concept for understanding acid-base chemistry more broadly. This calculator takes the strong acid’s molar concentration and returns both the pH and pOH using these formulas.
