Turkey Telephone Area Code Lookup

What is my province’s area code?

How it is calculated

This is a lookup, not a calculation. You choose one of Turkey's 81 provinces and the tool reads the landline area code assigned to it from a built-in table of province-to-code pairs. The result is the 3-digit code you dial after the national prefix and before the local subscriber number. For example, dialling a landline within Turkey from another province usually means 0 + area code + 7-digit number, and calling from abroad drops the 0 and uses +90 + area code + number. A few provinces return two codes. Istanbul, for instance, lists 212 and 216 because the European and the Asian side use different codes. Mobile numbers do not use area codes.

Worked example

Select Ankara from the list. The table maps Ankara to 312, so the tool shows 312. A landline in Ankara written in full is then 0 312 followed by seven digits when dialled from another Turkish province, and +90 312 followed by seven digits from abroad. Selecting Izmir would show 232, and Istanbul would show both 212 and 216.

Common mistakes

  • Dialling Istanbul with only one code: the European side uses 212 and the Asian side uses 216.
  • Using the area code for a mobile number, which has its own prefixes and never uses a province code.
  • Keeping the leading 0 when calling from abroad; with +90 it is omitted.
  • Assuming the code follows the city's address and not the province, so a district may share its province's code.

About this calculator

This tool looks up the landline telephone area code for any province in Turkey — the 3-digit code that follows the country code and precedes the local number, such as 212 for the European side of Istanbul or 312 for Ankara. Turkey assigns area codes by province, not by city size, so each of the 81 provinces has its own code.

People setting up a landline, filling out a form that asks for an area code, or double-checking an unfamiliar number use it to confirm which province a call is coming from. Select or search for a province to see its area code instantly.
