About this calculator

A salary percentile shows where a specific pay figure falls within a distribution of salaries — for example, being at the 75th percentile means the salary is higher than 75% of the comparison group. It's a more informative benchmark than comparing to a single average, since pay distributions are often skewed by a small number of very high earners that pull the mean upward.

HR and compensation teams use salary percentiles to set pay bands and decide where to target new offers (many companies aim for a specific percentile, like the 50th or 60th, against market data), while job seekers and employees use it to gauge whether their own pay is competitive within a given range, role, or industry.

This calculator takes a salary along with the minimum and maximum of a pay range and estimates where it falls as a percentile within that band.
