About this calculator

A solar cooker uses reflected and concentrated sunlight instead of wood, charcoal, gas, or electricity to cook food, so every meal cooked with it directly offsets a quantity of conventional fuel that would otherwise have been burned. Estimating the savings just requires knowing how many meals you shift to solar cooking, how much fuel a similar meal normally takes, and that fuel's price per unit.

This calculator takes your meal count, typical fuel use, and fuel price, and multiplies them out to estimate fuel and money saved per year. Off-grid households, sustainability educators, and NGOs promoting solar cookers in fuel-scarce regions use it to make the case for adoption concrete — translating an abstract "saves fuel" claim into a specific number of liters of kerosene, kilograms of charcoal, or dollars saved annually for a given household's cooking habits.
