About this calculator

Throughput is simply output divided by elapsed time — units per second, minute, hour or day — while its inverse, cycle time (time divided by units), tells you how long each individual unit effectively takes to produce. This calculator takes the units produced and the time it took, then reports throughput at every common time scale alongside the cycle time, so you can compare rates that were measured over different periods.

Production and manufacturing managers use throughput figures to track whether a line is meeting its target output rate, industrial engineers use cycle time as the core input for line balancing and identifying bottleneck stations, and operations analysts use both metrics together in capacity planning to forecast how much a facility can produce in a given period.
