About this calculator
This tool counts both the total word count of a text and its number of distinct (unique) words, then divides the two to produce the lexical diversity ratio (also called the type-token ratio) — unique words ÷ total words.
A high ratio signals varied vocabulary with little repetition, while a low ratio flags heavy reuse of the same words. Writers, editors, and students use it to check for repetitive phrasing, and linguists and researchers use type-token ratio more formally to compare vocabulary richness across texts or authors.
