About this calculator
This calculator validates a number's Verhoeff check digit, a checksum algorithm from 1969 that — unlike simpler schemes — detects all single-digit errors and all adjacent transpositions using dihedral group D5 multiplication and permutation tables rather than simple modular arithmetic.
It's best known for its use in India's Aadhaar identity number, and is also used elsewhere requiring stronger error detection than a Luhn checksum provides. Enter a number to check its Verhoeff check digit and see the correct one.
