About this calculator

Bike frame sizing formulas translate a rider’s inseam length into a recommended frame size using ratios refined by bike fitters over decades: a road bike frame size in centimeters is commonly estimated as inseam length in centimeters multiplied by 0.70, while a mountain bike frame, which uses a shorter seat tube for standover clearance on rough terrain, is estimated as inseam multiplied by roughly 0.66.

Cyclists shopping for a new bike, and bike shop staff doing an initial fitting, use these ratios as a starting point before fine-tuning with a full fit session, since correct frame size affects standover clearance, reach to the handlebars, and long-term comfort and injury prevention far more than saddle or stem adjustments alone can fix.

Enter your inseam length and this calculator returns recommended frame sizes for both road and mountain bikes using the standard sizing ratios.
