About this calculator

This calculator computes a bond's accrued interest — the interest that has built up since the last coupon payment but hasn't been paid yet — using Accrued Interest = Face Value × Coupon Rate × (Days Since Last Coupon ÷ Days in Coupon Period).

Bonds trade at a clean price (quoted price, excluding interest) plus accrued interest to arrive at the dirty price actually paid at settlement — this way, a seller who held the bond for part of the coupon period is compensated for the interest earned before the trade, and the buyer only pays for interest going forward. Bond traders and back-office settlement systems calculate this figure on every fixed-income transaction between coupon dates.
