About this calculator

Cash runway tells a company how many months it can keep operating before running out of money at its current spending pace, calculated as cash on hand ÷ monthly net burn rate, where net burn is monthly cash outflow minus any cash inflow (like revenue). A startup with $600,000 in the bank burning $50,000 a month net has 12 months of runway.

Runway is one of the most-watched numbers in early-stage business because it sets the clock on every other decision — when to start the next fundraising round (typically well before runway hits zero, since raising takes months), when to cut costs, and when a business is in genuine danger of insolvency. Startup founders, CFOs and venture investors track cash runway monthly, especially between funding rounds, to time fundraising and spending decisions.
