About this calculator

Cash runway is how many months a business can keep operating before running out of money, calculated as cash on hand ÷ net burn rate, where net burn rate is monthly expenses minus monthly revenue (a business with revenue exceeding expenses has infinite runway, since it's cash-flow positive rather than burning cash). This is one of the most closely watched numbers by early-stage startups, since it directly answers “how long do we have before we need to raise more money or become profitable?”

Startup founders, CFOs, and venture investors track runway monthly (or even weekly during lean periods) to time fundraising rounds with enough lead time — most investors advise starting a raise when 6+ months of runway remain, since fundraising itself typically takes 3–6 months and running out of cash mid-raise severely weakens negotiating leverage.

This calculator takes your current cash balance, monthly revenue, and monthly expenses, then returns exactly how many months of runway remain — a number worth checking every time your burn rate or revenue changes materially.
