About this calculator

This tool tallies how many times each distinct character appears in a text (whitespace excluded), ranking results from most to least frequent alongside a running total. The underlying technique is frequency analysis — the same method used to break classical substitution ciphers, since letters like E and T appear far more often than Q or Z in natural English text.

Beyond cryptanalysis, it's useful for stylometry and writing analysis (spotting a writer's habitual letter or symbol use), puzzle-solving (Scrabble, cryptograms, word games), and checking character-set balance in generated text or passwords.
