About this calculator

This calculator applies Coulomb's law, F = k × q₁ × q₂ / r², to find the electrostatic force between two point charges, where k is Coulomb's constant (about 8.99 × 10&sup9; N·m²/C²) and r is the distance between the charges.

Physics students use it to solve textbook problems on electric force, and electrical engineers use the same relationship when working with charge interactions in capacitors, sensors and electrostatic discharge design. The force is attractive for opposite charges and repulsive for like charges.
