About this calculator

Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) is a strategy of investing a fixed amount at regular intervals — say $100 every week — regardless of the asset's price that day. Because the same dollar amount buys more units when the price is low and fewer when the price is high, DCA smooths out the average purchase price over time compared to buying a single lump sum at one moment.

This calculator takes your buy amount, the number of buys, and the price at each purchase to work out your average cost basis, the current value of your holdings, and your overall return on investment. It's a mechanical way to see how averaging affected your entry price across a volatile series of prices — it does not predict future prices or suggest when to buy.
