About this calculator

ISO 4217 is the international standard that assigns every world currency a 3-letter code and a 3-digit numeric code — USD (840) for the US Dollar, EUR (978) for the Euro, JPY (392) for the Japanese Yen. The standard is maintained by the International Organization for Standardization together with SIX Interbank Clearing, the Swiss body that publishes and updates the official currency list.

These codes are the backbone of global finance: banks use them in SWIFT wire instructions, forex platforms quote pairs like EUR/USD with them, and accounting and invoicing software relies on them to avoid ambiguity between currencies that share a symbol (like the many dollars and pesos). This tool looks up the full name behind a code, or the code behind a name, for around 50 major currencies.
