About this calculator

A duathlon is a multisport race consisting of a run, then a bike leg, then a second run (run-bike-run), with two brief transition periods between the legs where athletes change gear and equipment. Total finish time is simply the sum of the three legs plus both transitions — but predicting each leg's split accurately requires accounting for the fact that the second run is almost always slower than the first, since legs are already fatigued from cycling ("brick" fatigue), and transition times (T1 and T2) are easy to underestimate when planning a race.

Duathlon is popular as both a standalone discipline and as off-season or winter training for triathletes, since it removes the swim leg while preserving the run-bike pacing and transition skills that carry over to triathlon racing. Age-group athletes and coaches use finish-time calculators like this to set realistic race-day goals based on recent training paces and bike splits, and to decide how much time to budget for gear changes in transition.

This calculator adds your run, bike and second-run splits together with your transition times to estimate your total duathlon finish time.
