About this calculator
This calculator uses the 2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation, the race-free formula now recommended by KDIGO and adopted by U.S. and international labs to replace the older race-adjusted version. It combines serum creatinine with age and sex through equation terms that use minimum and maximum functions of (creatinine ÷ a sex-specific kappa constant), raised to sex-specific alpha exponents, then scaled by an age-decay factor of 0.9938^age.
Nephrologists and primary care physicians use the resulting eGFR value to stage chronic kidney disease (CKD stages G1 through G5) and decide on medication dosing or referral timing, while clinical lab technicians report it automatically alongside every serum creatinine result on a metabolic panel.
