About this calculator

This calculator multiplies the battery capacity (kWh) by the percentage gap between your start and target charge levels, then applies your electricity price and the charger's efficiency loss to estimate how many kWh you'll draw from the wall and what it will cost to charge an electric car between two charge levels.

EV owners use it to compare the cost of charging at home overnight versus a public fast charger, to budget for a road trip, or to check whether their utility's off-peak rate meaningfully lowers the cost of daily charging. Because charging isn't 100% efficient, the calculator accounts for typical energy loss (heat, AC/DC conversion) so the estimate reflects real electricity drawn, not just the battery's usable capacity.
