About this calculator

An electric vehicle's driving range depends on three things: how much energy the battery actually holds, how efficiently the car uses that energy per mile or kilometer, and how much of the rated battery capacity is realistically usable (automakers reserve a buffer at both ends to protect battery health, so 100% of the pack rarely means 100% usable).

This calculator multiplies battery capacity by the usable-percentage buffer, then divides by the car's efficiency rating (kWh per mile or km) to estimate real-world range. EV shoppers comparing models and current owners planning a road trip use it to get a more realistic number than the optimistic figure on a window sticker, since real efficiency varies with speed, terrain, and climate control use.
