About this calculator

This calculator projects how many more miles a tire will last by treating tread wear as a linear rate: the tread lost so far (new depth minus current depth), divided by the miles driven, gives a wear rate in inches (or mm) per mile. That rate is then applied to the tread still remaining above the legal minimum to estimate remaining life.

It's the same reasoning tire shops and fleet managers use to schedule replacements proactively — most jurisdictions set the legal tread limit at 2/32 inch (1.6 mm), below which grip and wet-weather safety drop sharply.
