About this calculator
Changing a clip's frame rate affects its playback duration only when frames are retimed rather than dropped or duplicated to match — duration = frame count ÷ frame rate, so the same 24,000 frames plays for 1000 seconds at 24fps but only 800 seconds at 30fps, a fact that trips up editors converting between film's 24fps, broadcast NTSC's 29.97fps, PAL's 25fps, and web-native 30 or 60fps. Converting a fixed number of frames to a new rate while keeping the same wall-clock duration instead requires re-deriving how many frames that duration needs at the target rate, which is a separate calculation from simple retiming.
This calculator takes a frame count and your source and target frame rates, then shows both the new playback duration after retiming and the frame count needed to preserve the original duration. Video editors and colorists conforming footage between frame rates, motion graphics artists syncing animation to a delivery spec, and broadcast engineers preparing NTSC/PAL deliverables use it to avoid the classic sync-drift mistake of assuming frame count and duration both stay fixed when only one of them can.
