About this calculator

Golf's World Handicap System (WHS), used by the USGA, R&A and national golf federations worldwide, first converts a round into a Score Differential: (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating) × 113 / Slope Rating. The constant 113 is the slope rating of a course of "standard" difficulty, so the formula normalizes every round to that common baseline regardless of which course you played.

A player's official Handicap Index is then the average of the best differentials from their most recent rounds (typically the best 8 of the last 20). This lets golfers of very different skill levels compete fairly against each other and against par, and lets a player track improvement across courses of varying difficulty.
