About this calculator

Airlines carry two standardized identifier codes managed by different bodies: the two-character IATA code (like AA for American Airlines or LH for Lufthansa), assigned by the International Air Transport Association and used on tickets, baggage tags, and flight numbers passengers see; and the three-character ICAO code (like AAL or DLH), assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organization and used in air traffic control communications, flight plans, and radio call signs.

These codes matter because the same airline appears differently depending on context — a flight number like “AA100” uses the IATA code for passenger-facing display, while air traffic controllers and pilots refer to the same flight using its ICAO designator and radio callsign (e.g., “American 100”).

This lookup tool takes an airline name or partial code and returns both its IATA and ICAO designators, which travel agents, aviation enthusiasts, flight trackers and simulator users, and logistics staff booking cargo use to correctly identify carriers across booking systems, flight tracking apps, and aviation databases that may only display one code or the other.
