About this calculator
A kite, also called a deltoid in geometry, is a quadrilateral with two pairs of adjacent equal sides, and its area can be found directly from the lengths of its two diagonals with the formula Area = (d₁ × d₂) ÷ 2, the same half-product-of-diagonals formula that works for a rhombus, since a rhombus is technically a special case of a kite where all four sides are equal. This shortcut works because a kite's diagonals are always perpendicular, so the shape splits neatly into four right triangles whose combined area reduces to that simple product.
The formula shows up in practical geometry problems involving kite-shaped tiles, sails, or land plots, and it is a standard example in secondary school geometry for demonstrating why perpendicular-diagonal quadrilaterals, kites and rhombi, get this convenient shortcut while general quadrilaterals do not.
Enter the lengths of both diagonals and this calculator returns the kite's area.
