About this calculator

The area of a rhombus — a quadrilateral with four equal sides whose diagonals always bisect each other at right angles — is calculated as half the product of its two diagonal lengths: Area = (d1 × d2) divided by 2. This formula follows directly from the fact that the diagonals split the rhombus into four congruent right triangles.

This diagonal-based formula is often faster and more practical than the alternative side-and-angle formula whenever the diagonals are the measurement that's easy to obtain, which is common in geometry problem sets, tiling and flooring layouts that use diamond-shaped tiles, kite-shaped design work, and crystallography where rhombic lattice cells are described by their diagonal dimensions.

This calculator takes the lengths of a rhombus's two diagonals and instantly returns its area.
