About this calculator

This calculator computes mean arterial pressure (MAP) from a standard blood pressure reading using the weighted formula MAP = (SBP + 2 × DBP) ÷ 3. Diastolic pressure gets double weight because the heart spends roughly two-thirds of the cardiac cycle in diastole, so MAP better reflects the average pressure perfusing organs than either systolic or diastolic alone.

It also reports pulse pressure (systolic minus diastolic). Clinicians, especially in critical care and anesthesiology, target a MAP of at least 65 mmHg as the threshold generally considered adequate to perfuse the brain, kidneys and other vital organs.
