About this calculator

Mean arterial pressure uses the formula MAP = DBP + ⅓(SBP − DBP), weighting diastolic pressure more heavily than systolic because the heart spends roughly two-thirds of each cardiac cycle in diastole — so MAP reflects the average pressure your organs actually experience, not just the peak.

Clinicians rely on MAP rather than plain blood pressure to judge organ perfusion: a MAP below 60 mmHg generally can't sustain adequate blood flow to the brain, heart and kidneys, which is why it's tracked continuously in ICUs, during anesthesia and in sepsis management to guide fluids and vasopressor dosing.
