About this calculator

Month-over-month (MoM) growth measures the percentage change in a metric between two consecutive months, calculated as ((this month − last month) ÷ last month) × 100, alongside the simple absolute difference between the two values. Unlike year-over-year comparisons, MoM growth is sensitive to short-term fluctuations and seasonal effects, since it only looks at the immediately preceding period.

Business analysts, startup founders, and marketers track MoM growth for metrics like revenue, user signups, or website traffic because it's the fastest way to spot a trend shift — a sudden slowdown or acceleration shows up in month-over-month numbers well before it would be visible in a slower-moving annual comparison. It's a standard line item in investor updates and internal dashboards, though it's often read alongside longer-term trends since a single month's swing can be noisy or seasonal rather than a genuine change in trajectory.
