About this calculator

A natural gas bill is built from a handful of separate charges added together: the volume of gas you used, converted into therms or hundred cubic feet (CCF), multiplied by your unit rate from the utility, plus a fixed monthly charge that covers metering and delivery regardless of usage, and finally any applicable tax on top of the subtotal.

Utilities meter gas by volume but bill by energy content, so raw meter readings in cubic feet are typically converted to therms (1 therm equals about 100,000 BTU) using a local heat-content factor before the per-therm rate is applied. Understanding this breakdown helps homeowners spot rate increases, compare offers from different suppliers, or budget for heating costs that spike in winter months.

This calculator lets you enter therms used, the unit rate, any fixed charges and the tax rate to see exactly how each component adds up to your total bill.
