About this calculator

This calculator estimates a child's glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using the bedside Schwartz formula (eGFR = k × height / serum creatinine, with k = 0.413 in the updated 2009 version), a simplified, height-based equation designed specifically for pediatric patients rather than the adult formulas like MDRD or CKD-EPI.

Pediatric nurses, physicians, and nursing/medical students use it to quickly estimate kidney function in children from a height measurement and a creatinine lab value, since children's muscle mass — and therefore creatinine production — differs enormously by age and size compared to adults.
