About this calculator

Reflecting a point over the x-axis, y-axis or the origin produces its mirror image: the coordinate on the far side of the axis at the exact same distance, with one or both signs flipped depending on which axis is used. This is one of the four basic rigid transformations in geometry, alongside rotation, translation and glide reflection.

Game developers and graphics programmers use point reflection when mirroring sprites or building symmetric level layouts, and students use it constantly in coordinate geometry to build intuition for how transformations affect a shape's position without changing its size or form. It is also the mathematical basis behind symmetry checks in CAD software.
