About this calculator

Proration splits a fixed tuition charge according to the fraction of the term actually attended, so a student who withdraws partway through a term pays only for the portion of instruction they received rather than the full-term price. It's calculated as full tuition × (days attended ÷ total term days), with any refund or remaining credit being the difference from what was already paid.

Institutional withdrawal policies vary — some prorate on a straight daily basis like this, others use tiered refund schedules (100% before week 1, 50% before week 3, and so on) — but the straight-line proration is the baseline most registrar's offices reference. School and university registrars, financial aid offices, and students withdrawing mid-term use this calculation to determine the refund owed or the balance still due.
