About this calculator
A point (pt) is a print-typography unit fixed at 1/72 of an inch, while the CSS pixel is defined by the W3C as a reference unit anchored to 96 pixels per inch regardless of a screen's actual density. That ratio gives the conversion 1 pt = 96/72 px = 1.3333 px, which is why a 12pt font in a print layout maps to 16px on the web.
Web and UI developers, and designers moving type specs out of InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop (which all work in points) into CSS, use this conversion constantly to keep typography visually consistent between a print mockup and a live page.
