About this calculator

Unlike filament-based FDM printing, which is costed by weight, SLA/DLP resin printing is costed by liquid volume, since the printer cures liquid resin layer by layer inside a vat rather than extruding solid filament. Cost is calculated as the model’s volume in milliliters multiplied by the price per liter, divided by 1000 to convert units — and support structures, which are also printed in resin, need to be added to the model volume for an accurate total.

Hobbyist and professional makers producing miniatures, jewelry casting patterns, and dental or engineering prototypes rely on this volume-based costing because resin’s high per-liter price compared to filament makes accurate cost tracking essential for pricing prints for sale or budgeting a print farm’s consumables, and because slicer software already reports the exact model volume needed to plug into this formula.

Enter your model’s volume and the price per liter of resin, and this calculator gives you the resin cost of the print.
