About this calculator

Seats per table follow from the table's circumference: seats = floor(π × table diameter ÷ seat width), since each guest needs roughly a fixed linear width of table edge to sit comfortably (commonly 24 inches / 60 cm per person). Tables needed = ceil(total guest count ÷ seats per table), rounding up because a partial table still has to be set and staffed.

Wedding and event planners use this to figure out how many 60-inch or 72-inch round tables a venue needs for a given guest list, and caterers and venue coordinators use the same math to plan linens, place settings, and floor layout so the room doesn't run short — or end up with awkward half-empty tables.
